Adventure 3: MoMA

Museum of Modern Art

Cody, Adrien, and I visited the Museum of Modern Art on our day off in Rome. I was so excited to go because in America I have always wanted to go to the MoMA in New York but never have, so getting to in Rome was....like through the roof excitement. New York MoMA is still on my life's "to do" list but now I don't feel as bad if I never make it there.

Amanda and Callie went to the museum earlier that day and said that admission was free! Boom! The odds are definitely working in my favor during my time here in Italy. Little did I know that I would also get to see some of the greats from back in the day artwork's while I was there, but first here are a few pictures from our venture to the museum.

Duck!

I have one word to explain how these people were dancing....Saucy. It was awesome. In Italy or at least in Rome people randomly dance on the streets. It's a form of showing class and also just because their happy and like to entertain and the attention.

Graffiti Cat! I took this for my best friend Ariel because it kind of looked like her cat Ro-Ro. Rome had some pretty wild and cool graffiti. Not as much as Naples but it's pretty awesome because it's not frowned upon in Italy, graffiti is just another form of artwork.

Cool exterior of a church. I haven't been able to go into some of the churches we've passed by, because in Italy people need to be dressed appropriately to go in church, and by appropriately I mean no uncovered shoulders and your knees can't be showing. Sadly, I had shorts for a couple of them and wasn't able to go inside. Le'sigh.

I take random pictures of the people in Italy....and try to do it as discreetly as I can. The artist in me loves how they look. For me personally, I imagine how I could use the stature, clothes, or their facial structure for a character in my drawings. Italian people are very beautiful. They are high on fashion and physically in good shape because they walk everywhere. There are cars but a lot of people just walk. With the crazy traffic in Italy I would avoid driving on streets as well. In the picture below I was aiming for the goth kids in the background. They were the first group I had seen in Italy, the lovely women in the foreground was an accidental plus.

There we go. I was aiming for the girl in the black dress and the guy with the black vest and black boots.

                                                                       Yay MoMA!

After we got inside my want for something interesting was immediately captured by the floor. Cody, Adrien, and I looked around uncertain whether we could walk on the cracked, mirror flooring before us. A hasty couple beside us walked right onto the glass then and we followed.

Random short little video I took.

I loved the statue of this little boy, so I took a few pictures of him. The rolled up newspapers and his body build remind me of a character I drew once. I also like the lithe physicality of him. He's a child yet he possesses a maturity with the thoughtful expression.

Life size marble statues of the Greek gods and goddesses. One day I shall have a house with these in my foyer. Haha....and huge columns on my porch.

And in the middle lined with the gods and goddesses was this grandeur statue. Once again striking me with the masculine perfection so many artists in Italy strive to achieve in marble statues. The balance is perfect. Cody and I stared at this piece for a good 30 minutes.

Interesting plexi glass camel statue. I think they looked like giant kid toys.

Any of you art student/appreciator's will know why this is a big deal. Boom! Cody and I definitely had a major art nerd freak out when we saw it. Marcel Duchamp, I tip my hat to you sir.

.....and to you as well Monet.

I'm so happy this museum was camera friendly.

Hello sir.

Beautiful....

Another dream achieved, ladies and gentleman...Vincent Van Gogh. Ignore the two photo bombers in the picture. Van Gogh is an artist I've looked up to and admired purely for his eccentric nature and dedication to art, so getting to see a couple actual pieces was finding treasure.

MoMA: Dream achieved. MoMA did not disappoint me with all the treats it had dwelling inside, from artist's today to back with Van Gogh, Monet, and Marcel Duchamp. Definite satisfaction.
Thanks for reading :) <3 Buenosara!
