Brother: Noah
Age: 9-10.....I can't remember. Sorry bud.
Request while I was in Seattle:
"Are you in Italy yet?"
"No, not yet bud. I'll be there tomorrow."
"Can you take a picture of the Colosseum for me?"
I took this mission to heart and made a promise I would find the Colosseum on my own if the group didn't....luckily one day in Rome the group visited a bunch of different locations, my goal that day was to take in the experience of the Colosseum as much as I could. We walked everywhere the first few days in Rome, so have patience with me while I share these amazing photos of what I saw on our journey's to the locations. I didn't realize I had this but this is the Piazza Nuova that was a couple blocks from our hotel. This is where all the artist's set up their artwork. There are gelato shops, souvenir shops, restaurants, and the awesome Bernini fountains. My lovely friend Lara is in the picture below.
Yay! I do have some pictures of the Bernini fountain! :)
I'm sorry if me going on about this fountain gets boring. It was a big part of each day and morning while I was in Rome. I woke up early a few times just to see the sun hit these marble wonders, so I'm glad I found some pictures to share with you about my experience.
Anyway, onto the Colosseum....This is a fruit stand where some of the girls bought some fresh coconut and other fruits and veggies.
Coconut slices anyone?
Cody.
A flower Cody picked up.
This guy was dressed up to look like a decayed copper statue and was posing on a little platform. People dressed up in costume are all over Italy, all of them trying to be statues...but this guy was the most impressive one I saw.
Men dressed up as Roman soldiers.
Just crossing the street....which is SUPER hard in Italy and takes practice. People drive so fast! It's hard to know when to walk because we were afraid of them hitting us. The trick I learned and everyone else did as well is to ease yourself out into the traffic when there is a small gap and they stop...even if they are going kind of fast they do stop and the motorcycles dodge around you. At first though we would watch the Italians and just go when they did. From left to right in the picture below is Bobbi, Jazz, and Lara <3
Suddenly in the distance......
Yeeeeaaaaa buddy....Mission accomplished. I know I've said it a few times but I'll say it again...this is HUGE! The size is almost indescribable. I feel like the English language needs new words so I can elaborate on how magnificent some of the things I'm seeing are.
In this picture below is Ana in the black and blonde, Jazz with the green hair, Mark our professor in the khaki and hippie glasses, Callie on his left with the tank top, and Richard behind Callie with the blue shirt and sunglasses.
At one point when I was taking a picture I was holding my camera up and my back arched way back and I just held my camera down slightly and said, "......whoa." I was so swept up in the grandeur of this structure. The arches are massive.
Some pictures from the inside.
The floor is gone because it collapsed but there are all these column like hallways that served like a theatrical stage. Animals were sent up into the Colosseum from below.
And here's a short video I took to finish off this life swirling adventure.
And to your right we have the Arch of Constantine...
I will never forget my experience of sitting next to the Colosseum eating panini with my best friend Cody and the Arch of Constantine to my right. Thanks again for reading! Ciao!
Come back tomorrow for another adventure :)
